September is not too late to plant some of your favorite fall vegetables for a late-fall harvest!

  • You can still plant veggies like broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower and brussel sprouts in September, but  PLANT THEM ASAP!
  • Keep in mind, though, that because they require more time to grow, it is absolutely imperative that you fertilize them often to hurry the growth along.  Just follow the label directions on your favorite fertilizer or ask any of our store associates for some great recommendations.
  • Beware of letting your veggie plants get too dry since this will slow down their growth significantly.
  • Keep an eye out daily for insects in the garden – especially aphids and caterpillars.  They can do a whole lot of damage in just one day! Keep an organic spray on hand to treat for them like Neem Oil, Pyrethrin spray or insecticidal soap.

Now is also an ideal time to start sowing seeds of your favorite greens, like mustard, kale, spinach, turnips, collards, lettuce and more.  Even if you already planted some in August, adding to their number periodically will keep fresh plants coming for months!
