There’s nothing like sitting out on the porch on a summer evening, listening to the not-so-relaxing sound of “Buzz/Ow/Slap…..Buzz/Ow/Slap!”

As the temps start heating up this month, outside insects will become even more frequent visitors.  So surround your porch, deck, and outdoor sitting areas with these plants that are known to discourage mosquitoes and more!

As you see below, mosquitoes REALLY have issues with lemon.  Check our greenhouses for these plants that smell great and help to create a bite-free zone!

Lemon Grass should be grown in full sun and in addition to being a mosquito deterrent, it is used for a variety of medical ailments and for culinary purposes.

Lemon Thyme is rich in Iron, as well as vitamins C, D, and B complex. It is a perennial that will return each year and is just as pretty as can be!

Eucalyptus citridora “Lemon Scented Gum” is a actually a species of tall tree with smooth white to pink bark, curved leaves and white flowers.  It is a natural bug repellent (as are all of these suggestions) and is heavily, wonderfully fragrant!

Lemon Balm is a perennial herb that belongs to the mint family and boasts tiny white flowers in summer. Often used in cooking, it can grow up to two feet tall and a gorgeous addition to your anti-mosquito collection!

Lemon Verbena has a sweet lemon flavor that is great in teas and in cooking.  It is truly lovely and can grow up to six feet tall!  We love that the leaves release their beautiful fragrance every time they are touched.

Citronella Geranium (Mosquito Plant)  What a pretty plant, inside or out!  The fleshy green leaves are loaded with the citronella scent that mosquitoes avoid.  It can withstand some frost and can be left out all year. When hard frosts set it, simply cover it with one of our plant covers or one of your own.

Not only can these plants beautify your yard and garden but they can help repel pesky mosquitoes, as well!
