When it comes to battling weeds in your lawn and landscape, an early start is a MUST!
Toward the end of this month, start the battle with a pre-emergent like Fertilome Crabgrass Preventer Plus Lawn Food for lawn weeds, or HiYield Weed & Grass Stopper, which is great to use in landscapes and flower gardens (avoid use in vegetable gardens – ask an associate for appropriate weed preventers for vegetable gardens).
Remember that pre-emergents only work when applied PRIOR to the weeds germinating, so timing crucial! By late March and April, many weeds have already germinated so don’t put this step off.
That being said, it is a good idea to have something on hand to battle the weeds that you miss, post-emergent herbicides can be effective for early spring weed control.
