Plant Your Own Vegetable Bar
You can still plant cool-hardy veggies like spinach, lettuce, onions, cauliflower, carrots, broccoli, garlic, asparagus, potatoes, strawberries, brocollini – a healthy superfood cross between asparagus and broccoli – and lots, lots more. Then after our frost-free date of May 10th you can plant more tender veggies like tomatoes, peppers, squash, cucumbers, and melons.

Since many summer veggies are not very tolerant of frost we recommend waiting until after the 10th to plant favorites such as tomatoes, cucumber, beans, corn, squash, eggplant, and Southern favorites like okra, southern peas, and sweet potatoes.

TIP FROM THE PROS: Work some calcium into the soil when planting tomato plants to reduce blossom end rot. Hydrated lime or Calcium Nitrate are great choices for this. Also, keeping the soil around your tomatoes consistently moist helps significantly. If you like to keep it natural, we suggest using organic Foxfarm fertilizer and soil amendments for all your vegetable plants!
