Any Interior Decorator will attest to the validity of using houseplants as a natural, living accessory to your home.  With so many choices available in our greenhouses, it’s easy to find one that will perfectly highlight a room, add a flourish to a corner that needs attention, or a decorate a tabletop surface! Here are a few ideas to get you started…

We have dozens and dozens of varieties of houseplants available in our greenhouses right now!  Here are a few favorites.

Snake Plant:  Don’t worry – no snakes involved here!  It is named that because of the shape of the leaves! This pretty cultivar grows to around 3 feet tall and has narrow leaves with white vertical stripes. Very easy care – only water lightly when the soil is dry to the touch. If in doubt, err on the side of UNDERwatering! It can adapt to lower light conditions as well as bright areas.

Fiddle Leaf Fig:  One of the trendiest houseplants around, the Fiddle Leaf Fig is super easy to grow – just see that it gets morning sun or very bright indirect light and keep evenly moist – not wet or dry.  Its big showy leaves have rightly been called a “masterpiece of nature”.

Lady Palm: These multi stemmed shrub-like plants will add tropical flair and lush color to any space.  They are low maintenance, needing only bright, indirect light and moist soil — do let them get dry! Their broad, dark green, fan-shaped foliage have a distinctly oriental appeal.

Aloe Vera – If you do not already have an aloe vera plant in your home, it is definitely time to get one – or two or three!  Not only are they uniquely attractive, but they are also medicinally  beneficial for burns, rashes and more!

Dallis and Lemon Button Ferns – Southern homes are famous for their outdoor ferns all summer long – but did you know they are also ferns that perfect for inside your home?  These are two of our favorites – the button shaped lacey leaves and slight lemon scent of Lemon Button gives it is name, and this lovely plants needs only regular watering and indirect light.  Dallis Ferns have a stronger tolerance for low light and less moisture and their showiness makes them a great choice for entryways.

Air Plants – The name says it all – they thrive on air!  These small unique plants don’t even need soil;  you can actually glue or staple them to a surface and they’ll be fine.  They do need bright but indirect light.  And as for watering, we recommend submerging them for several hours in some filtered or distilled water, once every couple of weeks.  We have them in variety of leaf shapes and colors – you really have to see them to appreciate how pretty they are, but the pictures here will give you an idea.

These plus a HUGE selection of even more varieties of plants for every home are available in our E of JC greenhouses!
